As i'm starting this blog in the middle of my life i'd better give you a brief history.
So, lets start with the name. As we go on you'll realise that my mum isn't great with names. Especially seeing as the names she comes up with are intended for her galent, valiant, heroic and fearless protectors such as myself. The name Angelpie was a nickname for the first and founding angel pie dog - Jake.
Anyway, Mum always says that Jake was a much more loyal dog than me. She is getting old though (nearly 30!!!) so she probably can't remember too well! She also says that, as i have only seen pictures of Big Jake, i don't know enough about him to do him justice. Heck, i don't even know if we dogs can see in anything less than the 3rd dimension! I just pretend to look interested when she gets the photos out... put my glasses on... the usual thing. She's probably right, though. You can't really say you know another dog until you've sniffed his privates, so i'll hand over to Mum. Carls' note: Jake was a massive, long haired, rescued and 'full' German Shepherd dog. He got the name angelpie because of the angel-soft fur behind his ears. He came to live with me after HE decided he didn't want to live with his former owner. Its a strange story, but I lived in the same area as Jake's former owner and Jake would come round to my house, on his own, to visit me at every oppertunity. He even tried to jump through my car window when he saw me leaving for work one day! Eventually he did it so often that his former owners said that as he spends more time at my place, he might as well live there!

So, Big Jake moved in. I should point out that 'Big Jake' was never actually called 'Big Jake' during his lifetime. He was just Jake. But as we now have another GSD called Jake we distinguish between the two by referring to them as Little Jake (the new dog) and Big Jake (the original). Even though little Jake is now 2 years old, and anything BUT little, he is still much smaller than Big Jake, so Big Jake wil forever retain that title.

Big Jake was a wonderful dog and a fierce protector of his family. Some times too fierce and so great care had to be taken when strangers came to visit. I'll give him his due though. Hindsight has shown us that Big Jake knew a baddun' when he met one!!

With his family, however, Big Jake was the softest most careful dog you could want. My neice and nephew were 5 and 3 years old when we first got him, and they could do ANYTHING with him. Sadly, Big Jake left us some time ago and we still miss him dearly.
